Being Curvy in Japan

I have always been open and willing to discuss my issue with my weight, not just in Japan, but throughout my life. When I was a child I was quite small until I moved back to America as a child. I gained a lot of weight and was self conscious. I lot a lot of weight in High School, but due to body dysmorphia I was convinced I was the same size as I was in Jr. High. I maintained my weight throughout University. And since I moved to Japan I have actually gained weight!

My weight gain is due to a few different things. In Japan the food is amazing! and I don't have a car and my town is small so the train only comes every hour so rather than walking I choose to stay home. Now I am trying to get fit. I have joined a weight loss program and they are building a new gym near wear I live.

(Now) (When I first moved to Japan)

Now this doesn't mean that I don't love myself.

The way this all connects to Japan, well I guess it would connect to the crazy standards in Asian/Japan.

Japan and Asia as a whole have some pretty high standards of beautiful.

Here is a list of women who are considered to be extremely beautiful in their country.

Fumi Nikaido

  • Date of Birth: September 21, 1994

  • Place of Birth: Naha, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan

  • Height: 1.57 m

  • Profession: Actress, model

Jin Ah Nana

  • Date of Birth: September 14, 1991

  • Place of Birth: Cheongju, South Korea

  • Height: 171 cm

  • Profession: Singer, actress, and model

And These women are absolutely stunning. Genetically they are thin but some women put themselves through extreme hoops to fit a thin narrative. For example the extreme Korean diets! I read one where A K-Pop star ate only like 2 sweat potatoes and an apple....

Like, no...

Extremely thin and underweight women are easily seen around Japan. Using Body Mass Index (BMI) as a gauge, the number of Japanese women in their 20s who are too thin (BMI under 18.5), far exceeds those that fall into the overweight range (BMI over 25).

I am over weight I know and in Japan it can be hard. I have a hard time buying clothes. Sometimes rude guys call me fat. But you know what I am now on a journey ton lose weight in a healthy way.
